Karaoke in Portland / Westbrook

Wild About Karaoke? So Are We!
The word Karaoke comes from a combination of two abbreviated Japanese words, “karappo” (kara), meaning empty, and “okesutura” (oke), meaning orchestra. Legend has it that this cultural phenomenon was born 20 years ago at a humble snack bar in Japan’s Kobe City when a guitar player scheduled to perform had to cancel. The bar owner prepared some cassette tapes of recorded accompaniments to play while the vocalists sang, and it was an instant hit. Its popularity rapidly spread throughout Japan, and its success is largely due to the Japanese’ love of parties and, specifically, singing at parties. Large parties have long been a staple of Japanese culture and taking turns singing (regardless of vocal talent) isn’t just a way to liven up the atmosphere, it serves a much deeper purpose. Singing generates camaraderie between strangers and forges a deep sense of human connection in a world where social isolation is all-too-common.
While the thought of singing in front of a room full of people you don’t know might seem more nightmare than fun time, it is something that everyone should experience at least once. There’s a reason why karaoke has become so popular worldwide over the past two decades, and to understand it you need to immerse yourself into this truly unique activity. What surprises most karaoke first-timers is just how fun it actually is, and how embraced they feel by cheering and smiling onlookers. When it comes to karaoke, nobody is expected to be Mariah Carey or Frank Sinatra. In fact, expectations are thrown out the window right along with judgment. It doesn’t matter if you’re a good singer or if you’re completely tone deaf; people love to watch others let loose and belt out cheesy songs with gusto. Let go of your fear of taking the mic and open your mind to the world of karaoke. Chances are you’ll truly enjoy yourself more than you can imagine, and the resulting adrenaline rush just might make you a lifelong fan!

Wondering where to eat in Portland? Consider a restaurant in Westbrook
Posted on October 12, 2012
While there are over 230 great restaurants in Portland, Maine, you may be missing out if you forget about the neighboring city of Westbrook. Many of us are guilty-as-charged of always turning to our short list of favorite restaurants each time we go out to eat. Going with what you know, is a safe fallback because, it is just plain easier to pick an old standby than it is to choose from all of the great dining establishments in the Portland area. This is especially true at the end of an exhausting day when the last thing you want to do is think, or make even one more decision. As much as it is a matter of convenience, we also make the mistake of believing that because our usual restaurant has our favorite dish, we couldn’t possibly find another dining experience to match it. But this way of thinking couldn’t be further from the truth when it comes to going out to eat in this foodie town. (And by town, we mean Greater Portland.) Our best advice? Stay calm, take a deep breath, don’t let the sheer volume of options overwhelm you, and consider a restaurant in Westbrook that is known for its consistent offerings of fresh, delicious and high-quality food. And that Westbrook restaurant is … Seasons Grille and Bar.
Sure we’re prejudiced, but we believe that we stack right up there with very best of the best Portland and Westbrook area restaurants. And the next time you’re thinking about a great place to go for a quick bite and a drink or a delicious three-course meal that won’t disappoint, we want you to consider us. Seasons Grille and Bar has something for everyone’s preferences and our cozy and relaxed atmosphere makes our restaurant the ideal spot to relax after a long day. And while the ambiance will make you feel right at home, it’s our delicious entrees, appetizers, and frosty cold adult beverages that keep our customers coming back. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh from the ocean Maine seafood, a thick steak cooked to juicy perfection, a delectably crisp salad, or a good old American burger and fries, you can be sure that when you dine at our restaurant, your meal will be nothing short of wonderful.
